SPELUNKING DAY TRIP IN BUHUI CAVE
Less than 150 km from Timișoara, in the Anina Mountains, you can find the most beautiful cave in Banat: the Buhui cave, the second largest cave in the whole Banat region.
Our way to the cave will pass through Anina City, an old mining town that was developed around the surrounding coal mines. Its first inhabitants were Austrian settlers followed by a Slovak colony. After 1989 the town went through an economic downfall and nowadays all the mines have been closed.
From Anina we’ll take the road towards Buhui Lake, followed by a 30 minutes walking forest trail which will lead us from the parking place to the Buhui Cave’s entrance where our underground exploration will begin.
This cave is not an ordinary one! With a length of about 6 kilometers, it not only impresses you with its size but mostly with its beautiful limestone formations. The Buhui River that flows inside the cave adds beauty to the scenery by creating underground waterfalls and lakes.
We will also visit one of the most beautiful underground cave chambers in Romania, the Vasile Sencu chamber, well-known for its spectacular naturally-carved white limestone and Cave bear remains (Ursus Spelaeus).
The time spent inside the cave will be around 4 to 5 hours.
