Two Days in Transylvania

Two Days in Transylvania

Two Days in Transylvania is an extension of the tour One Day in Transylvania.

After visiting Alba Iulia we arrive in Sibiu, one of the most beautiful cities of Romania. We still have time for a drink and a walk in the city center. In 2007 Sibiu was elected, together with Luxemburg, the cultural capital of Europe. Sibiu is a Saxon city built by the Saxon settlers brought here by the Hungarian kings in 12th and 13th centuries. The Saxon name of the city – Hermanstadt, by the name of the founder – is still used by the German community here. Unfortunately, most of the German ethnics chose to leave Romania during the communist regime and especially after. Accommodation in a 3/4* hotel.

The second day is dedicated to Sibiu. After breakfast we start the walking tour in the city center. We’ll find the story of Herman – the butcher who found the city, and we’ll see the most important sights in the old city center: St Mary’s Cathedral, Piata Mica (Small Square), Piata Mare (Large Square), Liars Bridge, the fortifications of the city, the Orthodox Cathedral.

After lunch we can spend 1-2 hours in the largest open-air ethnographic exhibition in Europe – Astra, Museum of Traditional Folk Civilization.

On our way back, if we still have time and we don’t feel too tired, we can visit the beautiful medieval peasant’s fortress from Calnic. Starting with 1999, the Calnic fortress was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
