One hour away from Timisoara you can explore the countryside of Banat. You will find beautiful, peaceful villages that offer a mix of history, rural life, and nature. Margina is located about one hour away from Timisoara, and it’s a great spot for a quick, relaxing escape from the city.
Our first stop takes us to a village near Margina, nestled in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. This charming destination preserves the essence of rural Romanian life, with its traditional houses and picturesque landscapes. As we explore the village, we’ll gain insight into its unhurried way of life and deep-rooted authenticity. Along the way, we’ll visit a local museum to learn about the community’s history before heading to an 18th-century wooden church.
To further immerse ourselves in Romania’s rural traditions, we’ll visit a family-run farm. Here, we’ll discover traditional farming methods, the production of local goods such as cheese, honey, and fresh seasonal produce, as well as the importance of beekeeping and livestock in daily life.
For our final stop, we’ll drive to another village, where we’ll share a home-cooked lunch with a local family. Banat’s cuisine is rich and diverse, influenced by various ethnic traditions. As we savour an authentic meal made with locally sourced ingredients, we’ll learn about the region’s slow-cooked culinary heritage.
The area around Margina offers various hiking paths. After a scenic drive towards the mountains, we will walk in the surrounding forests to explore a beautiful waterfall. It’s a peaceful way to connect with nature and experience the beauty of the Romanian countryside.
Before we will drive back to Timisoara, we’ll stop by at a family who owns a large rose garden. We’ll get to try their rose syrup and rose jam before driving back to Timisoara.
