This half-day trip from Timisoara to experience the countryside of Banat is a great way to explore a beautiful, peaceful village that offers a mix of history, rural life, and nature. Margina is located about one hour away from Timisoara, and it’s a great spot for a quick, relaxing escape from the city.
On our first stop we will explore one of the villages around Margina situated in the foothills of the Carpathian Mountains. It’s a place that retains its traditional charm with rural Romanian life, old houses, and beautiful landscapes. As you walk around, we will learn about the slower pace of life and the authenticity of the area. We will stop by at a local museum to learn about the local community’s history then we’ll visit an eighteenth century wooden church.
To get a deeper understanding of rural life in Romania, we will visit a family-run local farm. We will learn about farming practices, the production of local goods (like cheese, honey, and seasonal fresh produce), beekeeping and the role of animals in rural Romanian life.
On our last stop we will drive to another village where we’ll enjoy lunch with a local family. The cuisine of Banat is rich and flavourful with a background from various ethnic groups. We will learn about locally sourced, slow cooked food while enjoying an authentic meal.
After lunch we will drive back to Timisoara.
