If you want to escape your day to day city life, or just want to relax and discover the spectacular landscape only 130km away from Timișoara, Cheile Nerei National Park is surely the place to do this.
Located in south-western Romania, Caraș-Severin county, the National Park is a protected area of more than 36.000 acres. Our journey starts in Timisoara and continues towards Oravița, which is the closest city to the National Park (1:45 minute drive). From here, after a 30 minute drive, we will park our car and start the beautiful hike toward the heart of the National Park.
After a 30 minute walk we reach our first stop – La Văioaga Waterfall. Here we will spend around 15 minutes enjoying this magnificent place and enjoy the sound of the water plunging into the river.
From here to our next stop – Ochiul Bei Lake – we will have a 1hour easy hike, after which we’ll stop to admire the beautiful turquoise color of the lake that never freezes, before heading to Beușnița
Waterfall. 15 minutes later we will arrive at the spectacular waterfall and take photos from all angles of the moss covered karst waterfall (beware, during summer the waterfall might be completely dry).
Afterwards, we head back to where we left our car and visit the 7 tunnels carved inside the mountain, then drive to the restaurant to try some Romanian traditional dishes.
